One of the things I really enjoy during Christmas season is shopping for gifts for my family and loved ones. I love giving presents. I especially love it when the gift is a surprise and the person receiving absolutely loves it. But what I really enjoy the most is the whole experience of shopping and finding the perfect Christmas present.
I love going to the mall or the Christmas night market with my husband. In the past couple of years, I’ve gone to Christmas bazaars with some friends. We truly enjoy going on the hunt for cute little trinkets. I truly am more of an offline shopper. I don’t shop much throughout the year, but come December, I typically frequent the stores — whether I window shop or actually shop, I’m there. Something about the stores and the city decked with ornaments, lights, and whatnot…
Shopping for presents won’t be the same this year. I can’t stay at the malls for too long, not just because we’re in a pandemic but also because my baby just won’t allow it —- these photos below from a mom on IG pretty much sum up my experience with my little nugget.
This year, I had to succumb to online shopping. I know this is nothing new to a lot of people but to me, it is. This is the first year that I ever tried Amazon Prime (which I ended up cancelling after a couple weeks). This is the first time I went to almost all of my go-to stores digitally.
While the experience of online shopping is super easy and convenient — I can do it when my baby is down for his nap — it just doesn’t give the feels.
I’m a real sucker for places decked-out with thousands of lights and holly and trees and garlands; playing Christmas music, offering sales and discounts, stores upping their charitable work… seeing everyone getting in the holiday spirit one way or another.
But this year, there’s none of that. I guess I’ve to appreciate all of it happening digitally this year and keep praying for things to get back to normal soon so we may be able to see and celebrate with friends and family like before.
If you’re like me and you’re shopping online this holiday season, let’s be mindful about supporting local especially during this time. Let’s help each other feel and hope that better days are ahead. 💝
